This is my story...
This is my story...
I grew up on a small farm on the coast of Washington state. My childhood was surrounded by every animal you could imagine, but it was here that my love for horses was founded. My mother grew up riding, and she had sat me on the back of her trusted childhood gelding before I could walk. I started with small 4-H shows on an Arabian mare that had been given to our family for free, and it wasn't until I was 12 that I rode my first dressage test and fell in love. I worked for years to buy my own horse, who had a little more talent, a 15-year-old Arabian Warmblood who had shown first level but had been sitting in a pasture for the last year.
After Graduating High School with my AA, my horse and I moved north to attend Western Washington University, where I received my BA in Business Management, and continued to ride and train my own horse. By the end of my 2 years at university, with many struggles and challenges, I had successfully moved us both up the levels and was able to receive my Bronze Medal with him. At this point, I knew Dressage was a career I wanted to pursue further and had my heart set on making this work.
Shortly after graduating, I received an amazing opportunity at a beautiful ranch outside of Austin, Texas, so I packed my bags and headed south. I have now been a working student at Cadence Ranch with Christine Calao, Owner and Head Trainer, for almost two years. Since then, I have gone from a self-made third-level rider to a Silver Medalist, and have shown the I-1 all the way at Nationals. I have also had the opportunity to ride amazing horses and take lessons with top-level clinicians such as Leslie Morse, Lars Petterson, Betsy Steiner, and Lehua Custer.
While my education and riding journey is nowhere near complete, and never will be in the sport, I have had amazing opportunities and have grown an unbelievable amount as a rider and horsewoman. I'm excited to see where my future goes!
